OK, my advice for those new to online dating;
• After a few messages back and forth I encourage you to arrange connecting via phone, you learn much more about a person’s personality from a short conversation (voice flexions and verbal expressions for example) and you can cover much more territory about each other with faster Q&A. And then if you’re comfortable, MEET them, don’t delay or draw it out (public place of course, and I suggest meet for drinks not coffee). The idea is to meet new people etc. not live in front of your computer screen.
• Yes, there are those that provide inaccurate photos (either very old or skewed in some way), not much you can do to avoid this other than check for what they are NOT showing you (body pics etc.) and consistency from pic to pic... As with any mode of marketing, everyone is attempting to provide an image that puts them in the greatest light and sometimes folks go too far. Bear in mind though, have nice pics but try to be accurate to what you really look like, otherwise you’re doomed to failure once you meet, nobody likes negative surprises and you just waste everyone’s time.
• I'm told it’s also the case that there are those that will lie about who/what they really are or do for work, don’t be too deterred when you come across these folks. Just like meeting people in bars etc, there will always be people that lack confidence to admit to what their level of success is or interests really are. I don't think one should ever lie about who they are but I have some empathy here as some things are hard to admit, especially to those that are essentially strangers, just remember that life is short and all will eventually be revealed anyway.
• Online dating is a bit of a numbers game, you'll start out interacting with many people, and eventually (hopefully) qualify down to a few you actually meet. After that you're on your own. There are lots of great folks dating online, don’t let the few misses discourage you from meeting someone great just around the corner.

I've been doing some jogging and ran a leg in a x-country race in the Crowsnest Pass last summer. I took up sailing a couple of summers ago and will be taking more lessons out of Vancouver this year - I'm looking forward to doing some island hopping hopefully by chartering a boat in upcoming summers.
