Date someone special from Alberta, Canada. I'm a pretty easy going guy, I enjoy life to its fullest and all the challenges it offers. I like a good conversation and getting to know a person, because that's where it all starts. Openness and honesty are a good trait, only because that's what I am. I honestly don't know what I'm looking for, but isn't that part of the thrill of meeting the person in the first place? Getting to know what interests them, seeing if you get the initial spark to get things started. Finding out what makes them laugh, smile, cry, scared, excited... what makes them care. I like meeting people in general, but I would like to find someone that I can hang out with and get to know, have a few laughs, share some insight, and get to a point where we're so comfortable with each other, that it just flows.

I know why I'm here, but I clearly don't know what the hell I'm doing. I know that I need to see a picture and need to feel that spark for a split second. I'd like to be the person that says looks don't matter, but I think they do and I can't get away from it. To that end, I'm not fooling myself; I know what the guy looking back from the mirror looks like. I think that I look like your average guy who's forty and single....we'll, 41 now, I guess.
I'm an introverted extrovert and I know that too. Networking and icebreakers are torture and my first impression is usually unnoticed or completely over the top. Dating is very new to me. I've always become (very good) friends with people first and then moved into dating. I guess that's really what I'm looking for here. I'd love to meet new people to hang out with and have fun and if it turns into romance, then all the better, but if it doesn't then it would be nice to have someone to just chill with too.
I think that's what makes this (online dating) so hard to do. Because, the first thing that happens is you see a picture, and in that moment a decision is made somewhere in the back of your brain. Secretly, I'm still hoping for the fairy tale ending like Serendipity or The Princess Bride, but I guess what's really important is the 'happily ever after' bit at the end.
Damn you Hollywood! Damn you for putting out the idea that fairy tales happen every day! :-) And, I guess, damn me for believing it's possible!

I'm curious. I'm really curious to the point that it's a distractions sometimes. It's good because at work my curiosity pays off, but there are times when it's hard to focus on something because I've come across something else and I want to know how it works. I love spending time with friends, but I also like the time I spend alone. Music is a big part of who I am and my goal is to play both the piano (again) and the drums (why the hell not?). I also have a banjo that I love and hate. The banjo is supposed to be a segue into a mandolin, but what the heck am I going to do if I actually learn the mandolin???
I love languages as well. Any little factoid about any language and you instantly have my attention. Starting Fall 2012, I plan to begin working on my degree in Japanese again, after taking too long a hiatus from it.

You notice the small things going on around you that everyone else just ignores. You see someone sitting on their balcony and you wonder who they are and how your paths will cross some day. The beauty of the world amazes you, but you are equally amazed by how cruel and thoughtless some people can be.
