A relationship should be based on trust, friendship and communication. All commonplaces, I know, but nonetheless true. To learn how to say things is as important as to learn the difficult art of listening. Sometimes the most romantic thing is a good conversation.
I value music way more than I can express in words. My tastes are quite broad, but at the same time quite defined. I could list the usual suspects, and more: from Bach to Beethoven to Brahms, blues and jazz (no smooth jazz...), and rock and folk and world music (Scandinavian folk, anyone?). So it’s music, and the arts, and movies (usually non-mainstream, which I tend to avoid), and poetry. Poetry in words and poetry in the everyday. Beauty in all its forms (ok, most of its forms, many of its forms...): the view of the Olympics from the highway, or an abstract photograph, or the oh-so-cute googly eyes of a dog... Creativity and wit are paramount. Deep down, I am a romantic (that may not show at first). And perhaps a minimalist too: sometimes a piece of fresh bread, spread with tasty butter and sprinkled with salt, is more than a feast (but I like good food too! I recommend my chicken a la chipotle and fried potatoes with paprika).
I am fortunate to have the job I have teaching (Latin American literature) at a local university.
I love to sweat after a good run (and yes, I also like showers, and saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs). I take full advantage of one of Victoria’s most wonderful institutions: its rec centers. I am currently training for the half-marathon and I will run the TC 10K (a piece of cake!).
My sense of humour tends to be ironic, sometimes a bit dark, but mostly well-intentioned and pretty effective overall...
