Instead of relying on my "dream maker" to make my ideals real, as a recent fortune cookie fortune has advised, I have made progress in reaching my ideals by working toward them. I moved here to Vancouver for the doctoral program in Counselling Psych at UBC and am currently teaching, counselling and finishing my dissertation research, as well as toying with the idea of trying my first triathlon in September! I love this city for so many reasons - the diversity, the environmentalism, the gorgeous outdoor playland it provides, at the same time, being an ex-American (j/k) from Chicago means that sometimes I really miss the authenticity and soulfulness of my hometown culture, as well as the obnoxiousness, openness and informality of 'Merica.
Some words that others might use to describe me: playful, smart, energetic, compassionate, analytical and maybe occasionally neurotic or stubborn, but also engaging, loving, silly... I love being outdoors and active, especially in the sun, and make it a priority to take care of my health and feed my addiction for endorphins even though my grad studies keep me tied to my computer a bit much. I am most passionate about living in the moment, helping people, connecting with family and friends, listening to music and taking in the latest in the arts. I am looking for a self-aware, passionate, mature and tall guy (see height) who doesn't mind talking about his feelings, and who can commit if there are sparks.

I am a very positive, optimistic and bubbly person, I am definitely an up-beat kind of girl. I love interacting with people, I am absolutely a social butterfly, but on the other hand I do like spending time at home with my family. Family is extremely important to me.
I think I'm funny...I like to make people laugh, and they DO laugh...so that means I'm funny right? :)
I'm a self-proclaimed DIY-er, I love to refinish, reburbish and redo furniture, old art, mirrors and loveable junk. I am also quite good with power tools! Yay me!
I love to garden, bake and cook. I make a darn good cheesecake! I love the outdoors, hiking, going to the beach (which conveniently is about a block from my house). I also like canoeing, kayaking (although I'm not a great at it) and boating, and of course fishing, given the area where I live. I also like to hang out at home in the yard, bbqing for friends and family. I also enjoy photography, it's a relatively new hobby I am learning about.
I am girly and feminie but I can also get my hands dirty. I like to dress up and wear makeup, but I am also quite comfortable roughing it in the bush (with toilet paper of course)!!! I take care of myself but I am not a Princess!!!
I like most genres of music, except punk, metal and some alternative. Right now I'm into the Black Keys, but my favorite bands include The Hip, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Morcheeba, Johnny Reid, and lots of others!
I don't watch much TV but I like Animal Planet, Discovery Science and National Geographic Channel, of course Treehouse is on sometimes as well! I like to watch movies, as long as they aren't too scary! I like a good drama or action flick.
I have a very young child at home, whom I adore with all my heart! (Of course, right?!) It makes it very difficult to date someone being a solo parent to a child so young. She has a father and I provide for her and I just fine :)
