Date a man from Fergus, Canada. 2nd edition - Because you deserve more !
I am a self described down-to-earth kinda fella. I consider myself to be a simple man … hopefully not considered a simpleton, ... just not overly complicated. I am truly blessed with health, family, friends and the career of my choice.
I am the proud father of three fantastic kids. Just when I thought it wasn’t possible, my heart swells more and more! before I go on, I have been told the bare patches on the sides of my head �should’ grow back in short order, and my eyes have begun to straighten out without that surgery. The change is noticeable now, I guess it would seem my recovery is in direct relation to �their’ maturing progress. Their mother and I are partners in parenting, as it should be. We have joint custody, however they do spend more time there, as I work rotating shift work. I find it challenges me to strive to be a better father. Dance competitions and recitals are many on top of attended school functions.
My family has been fantastic with their support over the …. Ok, �most’ of the time … years with me and my decisions. Some times it’s hard to be an adult/father and the baby of the family though.
Career wise ? well I have now broached the twenty year mark …. I’m not completely sure what I think about that, but there are benefits to be gained. I have also spent a very large portion of that time teaching students of all ages, the basics and in some cases advanced skills pertaining to my sport. The building blocks for this were the years throughout my teens when I competed and was able to represent this great nation of ours internationally. Now I am able call on the words of a mentor of mine some twenty-seven years ago, “ I am still putting back, what I took decades ago”. Competing has slid by the way side, family, career, life has a habit of displacing activities.
When I am not doing all of that, I find myself looking for things to do in the outdoors. Doesn’t matter the season, I will find something. I could be found camping, at an organized site, or wilderness on crown land. Exploring organized trails in parks, or the worn game trails in the bush of Northern Ontario, on foot, bike or ATV. It is the only way to find those secluded lakes. I’ll need the canoe for that as well. How about a leisurely drive in the country? Back roads, hills, forest, lakes, rock cuts or anywhere with a fantastic view.
Movies? Well I am a guy, so action and gun play is in there, a good �who done it?’ even documentaries on interesting topics, as well, I have been known to opennly enjoy a good �chick flick’ in my time.
Music? I would suggest a tour of my pre-sets on the radio in my truck. Might surprise you. In fact years ago I surprise a number of people with the collection of cassettes in my car. Tucked in beside each other was Guns’N Roses, The Highland Scot Guards, Terry Clark and Bach.
I have found myself at three funerals this past year, I have come away with the typical emotions, but have also come with a mission. In short, I do not wish to have “life” get in the way of living and enjoying my life. No, don’t be getting the wrong idea, I haven’t pledged to hurl myself out of a perfectly good aircraft! After all I do have some courage, I have rappelled over cliffs, even in the �Aussie’ position. Ok… so that was in a different life. (read : younger days)
So did I mention I like to have a great laugh? Yes many a time I may be unwittingly centered in that laugh, but life is too short and fragile to be wasted. That statement is probably guiding my actions here. If you received a message on here from me, safe to say I am taking it to heart.
Ok so it appears I have gotten way too deep for this, please let me leave you with a quote from my youngest, at 6 yrs, “Daddy, you’re being goofy again!”
