Having said that, I think that love, or the pursuit of love, is a courageous act. Let’s be honest. By the time we’ve lived four or five decades, most of us have experienced some personal pain and heartache, either through failed relationships, the death of friends and loved ones, betrayal of friends or disillusionments of one kind or another. And none of us is immune to the suffering and tragedy in the world around us – or at least we shouldn’t be. To believe that life is good in spite of all that is an act of courage and to be open to love and understand that’s all that really matters, is our highest calling.
To me, relationships are paramount. My faith is important to me and my relationship with God is my foundation. My young adult children, loving extended family and circle of friends are the infrastructure of my life. Work is important and I love my job with a Christian, international NGO, but no job, no matter how fulfilling, will keep you warm at night. My interests range from reading voraciously – my night table dangerously teeters with a stack of books, magazines and other reading material that threatens to topple at any moment – to singing in my community choral society, to practicing yoga and Nia and walking regularly to keep in shape for the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers, which I’m doing for the eighth year. I volunteer in my community, where I grew up, at the food bank, canvassing for our local cancer assistance service and tons of fundraising for various charities. I love live music and theatre -- music festivals, the Shaw and Stratford Festivals and local little theatre are favourites.
My work has given me the privilege of travelling to the developing world and meeting people who are working to overcome their circumstances with the help of committed local staff. These experiences help me not to take for granted the many blessings in my life.
I also love to travel for pleasure and recently took a solo vacation to Paris en route to a work trip in Nairobi. Paris in the spring *sigh* -- wonderful, except it could have been even more wonderful, perhaps, with a male companion? Italy is high on my list of places I’d like to visit again – next time, hopefully, with a loving partner.
Which brings me to what I am seeking – a kind, considerate, intelligent, healthy (physically and emotionally) man who cares about people and makes me laugh, for a mature, committed, life-long friendship/love affair.
