I have two teenage sons, one is going to university in the fall, my other son is going next year. They keep me busy with all the sports they play, enjoy every minute of it.
I enjoy so many different things, not sure I can list them all, this is what I've done in the last couple of weeks though, went to a couple of Blue Jay games, ate sushi too many times, spent way too much time working on my yard, went kayaking lots, on my bike...lots again, went to the gym....not lots...probably should go now.... went shopping in Buffalo... no I don't consider that travelling, hosted a BBQ.... everyone survived... I can't take credit for coming up with all of them but they are an accumulation of what I have read and my personal beliefs. If you have a suggestion as to how to improve this list feel free to let me know. It is always evolving thanks to a lot of great suggestions. 1) Attention: a phone call in the middle of the day to say, "I'm thinking about you". Romance needs attention to keep it alive. There needs to be a healthy balance between being together and being apart. 2) Affirmation: Supporting strengths and continuing to treat each other with respect. 3) Affection: Holding hands, caressing are basic but often forgotten. Intimacy is a very important part of a relationship and touching should be a natural part. 4) Adventure: Predictability gets boring. I want to feel safe but I also want adventure. Trying new things is exciting. But I won't jump out of a plane again. 5) Communication: Talking is essential in a relationship. Disagreement is normal, but sweeping it under the rug and not dealing with it leads to resentment. 6) Trust: Trust comes as we get to know each other. It is a two way street. If there is trust then jealousy is not an issue. They say it takes a long time to build trust and an instant to lose it. All it takes is being honest, even if that's not what the other person wants to hear. 7) Independence: A relationship needs diversity and each person needs to have their time. 8) Humour: Not stressing the small stuff. We often have two choices. To find the negative in something or find the positive. I tend to be the kind of person that doesn't sweat the small stuff. I am told I'm a lot of fun. I think I am. 9) Self Awareness: Having a clear understanding of our thoughts and behaviours helps us understand other people. But it also allows us to stop reacting purely with emotion. By this time in our lives we either have our sh*t together or we don't.
