I love all sorts of music - Country, 80's/90's, Pearl Jam/Nirvana/NIN, the Grateful Dead, Spoon, and the list goes on...I want to see the world and would love to be able to do that with someone special. I've been to Japan, Hong Kong, Spain, Mexico, Ireland and most recently Aruba. I think next trip would be to Greece, Italy or France, but we'll see. One day I'd love to drive cross country in the US.

I recently returned to Canada after living abroad for a few years and am very new to the GTA. I have lived in Scotland, N. Ireland, England and most recently the US. I just arrived in Toronto and am likely unpacking boxes as you read this.
Meanwhile, on with my 'self sales pitch.'
I'm a fun guy who spends most of his free time traveling, volunteering and used to teach technical rescue classes and volunteer in the US fire service as a firefighter / EMT. I also love reading, playing music and occasionally having either nerd nights (rockband anyone?) or wine / whisky tastings with friends.
I love dry, sarcastic and occasionally irreverent wit, being passionate about life and trying to actually enjoy the world instead of being cranky all the time. I don't fall into any traditional stereotypes, I just love to try new things and do things I enjoy.
In addition to having played on fire trucks, I played in an acoustic cover band. If you're musically inclined, bonus. If you have low musical standards and are tone deaf, even bigger bonus. Mega bonus if you actually like single malt "scotch" whisky.
Because people like lists - some basic facts of lil ole me:
- I teach technical rope rescue, but I'm really scared of heights.
- My nickname in the fire department is 'scrumptious' - for the record, it is for my kickass cooking (stuffed salmon anyone?)
- In the last 2 years I've been to Ireland, Jamaica, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Pakistan, Mali, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Sudan, Bolivia and Peru (mostly for work, some for holiday).
- My hair is done by a stylist named 'Gillette' (unfortunately, not all of it).
- I ride in a Mardis Gras parade krewe (Endymion) every year.
- I have more shoes than all your guy friends put together.
- I just got back into running, and my shin splints make me want to cry. Seriously. Ow.
- I studied classical ballet when I was younger. I still have a mean 5th position!
- I used to be in 2 bands, a four piece rock cover band (drums, vocals) and an acoustic duo (ukelele, guitar and congas).
My friends tell me I'm an honourable guy and my exes also speak well of me. I'm happy to say I've avoided angst-ridden dramatic breakups. So if you're looking for a guy who is fun to be around, will treat you right and you can actually take home to Mum, look no further.

I'm intellectually oriented, very curious/analytic-minded, ambitious and driven, and fit/active. Well educated, I'm broad-minded and forward-thinking. I appreciate and explore other cultures and their contributions to our global village. I especially enjoy (very) spicy international food with imported beer or great wine. Interests include: Chinese martial arts (incl. volunteer-teaching tai chi at my local YMCA); urban cycling (speed is key - think big-wheeled, big-geared, leg-powered, road monsters); and dancing (funk/house/electronic beats). I also enjoy cooking great food for two, foreign/documentary/indie flicks, and live jazz and classical music (mainly French impressionist and modern Russian composers). I don't own a TV though I very much enjoy movies (saw 'Separation', 'Pina', and 'Gerhard Richter Painting' most recently). Photography (especially architectural subjects) is a creative interest.
