I am a scientist and a traveller, from a large family of academics and travellers. I got a job back in Canada after several years away and now I'm am looking to settle down a bit somewhere.
In the past, I spent a lot of time outdoors, camping, hiking, skiing, climbing and paddling, and I'd like to get back to this. I also enjoy travel - I travel about one month a year for work, pleasure or both, and have recently been to Japan, France and the Middle East. I have lived and worked in the US and in Britain, and when I was younger I also lived in France and Belgium and Japan as well as Canada.
I am looking for a woman who is intelligent, self-reliant, and has a strong but open mind. Someone who is happy to have serious conversations, to travel to foreign countries or to go camping in the bush, and can generally hold her own. I didn't just get off the boat, I don't have an accent (though I can imitate my Dad's pretty well) and if I'm drunk enough, you'll get to hear it. I was born in Mississauga so for the record I'm 100% Grade A Canadian and very proud of it. Love to spend my leisure time at the gym, going for a run or reading. I've also discovered Bikram yoga which I'm now addicted to. I eat as healthy as I can given a hectic lifestyle. I don't watch a ton of TV unless I'm going to learn something... or it's Fringe :-) I've been blessed with being a pretty funny guy but it's a dry and very witty/sarcastic sense of humour. I tease a lot but I have thick skin so I can take it too. Often I'll go off on a rant about the sad state of our world and our ability to fix it in an instant if it weren't for our inability to agree on 'anything' politically. It pains me some days how humanity be so smart and so dumb at the same time.
About my perspective? Like most of us I'm just looking to be the best person I can and contribute as much as I can back to world before I leave. I'm sure our ultimate purpose here is to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Much of my charity goes to the humane society, I love animals and it saddens me that they can't defend themselves against our relative indifference to their existence. I have a great job, great friends, I'm independent, goal-oriented, financially stable, articulate and well educated. I'm also pretty spiritually oriented, I know there's something greater than us (call it God, the Universal Energy, whatever...) and that life is about making a connection with that. Needless to say that at my age I'm confident in who I am so I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not in the hopes of impressing you. You'd see through the facade at some point anyway so why bother?
About love? To me a relationship needs to be cultivated much like a bonfire. Some kindling and a small flame first... and with enough patience, care and attention, a roaring fire that lights up the night. Oh, I'm a Gemini so it means I love spending time with someone with a lot of energy. My vice? Nice clothes. I'm not an overt brand whore (probably just a closet one).
About my work? I love my work even though it's a corporate gig. I manage a team of 20 and they're a great bunch of people. Of course there are days where the politics get so bad or the meetings so boring that I want to stab myself in the eye with the nearest pen (you think I jest but I'm dead serious). It's a crazy schedule but I'm a work hard/play hard kinda guy. I feel blessed to have so much autonomy and responsibility.
About my goals? My life goals are achievable: A house by water, dogs, surrounded by nature, passive income businesses and feeling connected to it all. It's the 5 year plan. What's yours?
