Date a woman from Canada. I am the oldest daughter of a man who passionately pursued a woman, ten years older than he, and convinced her to marry him – in a small town in Southern Germany in 1966. I sang English songs long before I ever officially learned the language, and had a great love for Grimm’s fairy tales. My teenage years were marked by the peace movement, and the rise of the Green Party. In an unprecedented non-violent sweep, the Berlin wall fell and Germany was reunited the year the “the north wind” called me to the shores of British Columbia.
I moved to Canada for love, which lasted many years, but wasn’t ever after. Nevertheless I got precious life experience, extensive personal growth, and two beautiful children out of it - a spirited daughter with a big heart, and a son whose comedic timing gives my diaphragm a regular workout. Singing and playing my guitar makes me aglow, and I like to challenge myself to leave my “box” on a regular basis, but will stop at things that involve stuff like jumping out of airplanes, or eating cockroaches... I have been known to go out on a limb for things and people I believe in. Not always with the desired results, but knowing that I wouldn’t spend my life wondering and wallowing in regret.
I love the smell of rain on asphalt after a long hot summer’s day, the way dust dances in the sunlight, and having a bonfire by the river with friends – definitely with guitar in tow. I love watching Juliette Binoche enchant and transform a whole village in the movie “Chocolat”.... I have come to accept the parts of myself that are “imperfect” and have formed a truce with “the monkey on my back” - well almost ... ;-)
I don’t like ignorance (not my own either!) and think the term “hooking up” is pretty pathetic! At this point in my life I am engaged in my studies to become a force to be reckoned with in the world of social justice, while working with youth less fortunate than I was, and organizing way too many events at the same time. I do all this with passion and abandon, but only a mediocre talent for time management. I am forever enthralled by the mysteries of life and the wisdom of different cultures and strongly agree with Maya Angelou that “life is not measured by the amounts of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away”.....
It's hard to summarize what I'm looking for.... Love is so much more complex than having the same interests. I appreciate a man who has weathered some of life's storms and has come out "a better man", and not hardened and bitter. A generous and forgiving heart, paired with soulfulness is something utterly attractive to me. It's also important that you respect yourself and know your own worth, and have compassion for people less fortunate than you are. If you enjoy kissing and do it well, and generally know how to please a woman, I'm all ears ;-)
