Knowing myself (all that inner work!), the truth is that I feel most loved in the physical dimensions of a relationship—holding hands, sex, massages, and emotional closeness. (PDAs are plenty fine with me too.) So we might do best if affectionate, physical/emotional appeals to you too. The other usual R expectations -- gifts, cooking, housework, ego-stroking, etc – are not that important to me--I can easily do them myself.
“Get someone you can talk to, because that’s all you’ll have after the sex goes,” a woman wrote. Good point. Communication--the desire to talk freely about ideas, thoughts, and feelings in an accepting, non-threatening, and non-judgmental way—is another part of Rs that last. I seek and practice this too.
“A relationship implies a Commitment to deal with the other person’s Xxxx and Issues,” another woman wrote. Insightful, I thought. (CSI is what I call it now.) So I seek someone who is beyond light-duty Rs based on only fun, money, travel, or tall-cute looks. Those Rs can easily melt away with changes in life (I’ve been there). Instead I seek "a belief in long term love and CSI to the end” (or similar).
So physical/emotional, verbal, and commitment are at the core of good Rs for me. All of my Rs have had good 1, fewer had deep 2, and fewer still had long-term 3.
About Me
I’m an optimistic, cheerful, easy-going guy who is easy to talk to. I like to tell jokes and laugh a lot. I'm rock solid in confidence and knowing who I am, and I'm good at many manly arts from wilderness whitewater canoeing to city ballroom dancing. Better yet, I’m honest and polite with other people. I like to eat healthy for my body, to read lots of books for my mind, and to set goals for myself. Lately I’ve been reading up on happiness, fulfillment, relationships, losing weight, and longevity--I want to live a long and happy life with a valued partner.
I like to allocate my life this way: (1) Laughing and talking (sometimes seriously!) and fooling around with my lover—to me, this is the best use of my time, by far. She is normally #1 priority on my list. (2) Then normal team stuff—health, work, chores, and doing things together to build memories. (3) Then stretching myself by learning, generating, and absorbing new life experiences. I like inner growth, and like to work on a good mind problem. I think out-of-the-box, and am not a 9-to-5 guy. (4) Finally, in my unfocused time, I like to drift and visit, not really caring what I'm doing, just having a good time.
Future Hopes
I hope to find a loving woman who is peaceful and youthful inside and out, a direct communicator, still fit and athletic enough to do the usual sports and activities, and one who values a good long-term R over immediate fun. Looks are important up to a point, but I think caring for your mind, body, personality, and R are more important for the long term. Knowing yourself and being willing to change to reach new R goals seems important too.
My hope is to hold hands, kiss deep, dance close, talk lots, laugh hard, have fun, see some of the world, and love my mate, until the end. Then I want to look back at our lives and say, "What an amazing journey we created together!" That would be a happy ending for me.
Maybe I’m shooting for the moon with an R-123, but we all know that 3 isn’t for everyone. So maybe R-12 is more realistic, or a local R1.5 (pure R1s are not for me), or maybe long term lunch friends. I try to accept and enjoy each kind of R for what it is. Some distance doesn't worry me much; we can talk about it.
